Description
Headrest Luba, carved wood created by the Luba people of the southeastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Served as pillow to preserve intricate coiffures of their owners. Headrests were also considered the seat of dreams, which the Luba believed to be prophetic. The carved female figure represents the priestesses acting as intermediary with the spirit world.
Dimensions: 7 x 6 x 3.
Condition: Good with slight crack in the middle of the headrest (note documenting photo).
