Description
The Twa (Batwa) in Eastern DRC transitioned from forest-dwelling to settling near agricultural villages, where they became renowned as master potters. Their pottery often includes functional and decorative items traded with neighboring groups. Monkeys are common motifs often representing cleverness. Small ceramic vessels with anthropomorphic or zoomorphic (animal-like) figures are characteristic of the TWA's artistic traditions.
