Description
Victorian walnut pole firescreen, late 19th century, having a shaped carved walnut frame enclosing a floral needlepoint panel under glass. The needlework depicts a large bouquet of roses, lilies, and scrolling foliate decoration in soft cream, red, blue, green, and gold tones on a tan ground. Frame with serpentine molded outline, carved scroll accents, gadrooned inner molding, and carved crest above. Mounted on a turned walnut standard with adjustable pole and finial, raised on a shaped tripod base with short feet. Reverse fitted with patterned fabric panel. 65 in. high x 21 in. wide x 14 in. deep.
Condition
Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, scattered surface scratches and finish wear to walnut, minor separations/old wear to lower frame area, and fading/discoloration to needlepoint consistent with age. Presents well.
