The Compton Art Potters' Guild was founded by Mary Watts (née Fraser-Tytler) in 1889, and was heavily influenced by her artist husband George Frederick Watts, as well as other artists and craftspeople such as Edward Burne-Jones, Phoebe Traquair, William De Morgan, and Walter Crane. It was known for producing terracotta pots, bookends, jugs, plaques and pendants, some of which were sold in Liberty & Co.
