Description
From consignor’s original auction description: WELL MOUNTED GERMAN GOTHIC-STYLE SUIT OF ARMOR, very well mounted, German composite suit of armor, in the late 15th century "Gothic" cap-a-pie style; comprised of a sallet-type helmet, which terminates to a point at its rear below the neckline, 19th Century. At the front of the half visor is a latch that secures itself to the matching breast plate with flanking rondel besagews at either side. Back-plate appears early possibly 17th or 18th Century. Pauldrons are matching and articulated with four components consisting of two lames joining either piece at each end. Couter is highly defined and pointed at the end with leather through each connecting to vambrace and gauntlets are articulating. Numerous remnants of old leather to inside of rivets. Fauld is of four lames and tassets are fixed of a one-piece design consistent with remainder of suit. Cuisse and lower are well pitted, poleyn with slight protrusion as designed, sabatons are well formed and matching to other leg components in pitting and design, overall heigh 67 ½” on a 13” tall x 19” x 18 ½” wood stand.
