About the artist: Manuel Felguérez (1928–2020) was a prominent Mexican abstract artist, known for his pivotal role in the post-war Generación de la Ruptura group. In making Constructivist and Cubist inspired sculptures and paintings, Felguérez confronted the dominant style of such Mexican muralists as Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and José Clemente Orozco, with work focused on aesthetic and formal experimentation rather than political or social agendas. As one of the first Mexican artists to explore the possibilities of geometric and gestural abstraction, he helped propel the country into the "post-muralist" era, aligning Mexican art with the international avant-garde.
