Your opportunity to own a very rare mid-late 19th century transferware opaline glass table lamp by Hinks & Sons. Featuring a Victorian motif of a woman with floral hat holding a sickle and hay.
The lamp is originally an oil lamp by Hinks & Sons, and was later converted in an electric lamp with double sockets and pull chains.
James Hinks & Son developed the "Patent Duplex Lamp" in 1864 which incorporated two wicks instead of the usual one, allowing their lamps to burn twice as brightly. Aesthetics were just as important to the firm as technical innovation and their lamp designs were constantly drawing inspiration from the vanguard of European fashion.
Hinks & Sons lamps were innovative until electric lighting became common in the early 20th century.
The lamp is adjustable to different heights, the dimensions provided in the listing is for the shade in the pictures, it will be sold with the lamp.
