Description
This impressive large porcelain figural lamp was modeled by the Italian sculptor Arturo Pannunzio, whose molded signature appears on the piece along with the marks "Depositato Italy" and the painted factory code "V.B. 177 Italy." Born in 1891, Pannunzio became one of the notable porcelain modelers working in Milan during the early-20th century and collaborated closely with the Bertolotti workshops, producers of finely detailed figurative porcelain in the Capodimonte tradition.
An elegant eighteenth-century lady stands in a poised stance, her delicately painted face serene and expressive beneath a powdered gray coiffure styled in soft curls and gathered into a refined period hairstyle. In one hand she holds a brightly colored parrot, its vivid green and orange plumage providing a lively contrast to the softer palette of the porcelain figure.
Her voluminous gown is rendered in a warm rose-pink ground richly adorned with flowing gold floral scrollwork. Carefully modeled folds and drapery create a sense of movement and lifelike depth to the fabric, enhancing the sculptural quality of the piece. The skirt flares outward into a softly scalloped silhouette that displays beautifully from every angle and gives the figure a dramatic, elegant presence.
The porcelain figure rests on an ornate gilt metal base with pierced scrollwork and raised detailing that echoes the gilded decoration of the gown. A Bertolotti Milan label remains affixed to the base, further confirming its association with the workshop known for producing finely crafted Italian figurative porcelain.
