Description
A nude athlete in a contorted pose on a pedestal preparing to throw a discus. Myron's skill to depict the movemnt of the human body in motion during the throw of a discus was a major feet for his time. The original was made from marble and has since been lost to time. The original was sculpted near 450-460 bc. A classical greek reproduction of the Discobolus by Myron, made of bronze in the 1960's. The dimensions of this sculpture is 17" high, by 11" wide by 5" deep. It is quite a spectacular piece to admire the human form during physical games. This is most likely a Roman reproduction. I purchased this from a neighbor who wanted to sell some belongings of her late husbands.
