Description
Antique 1880s Victorian Jackfield Pottery Gilt Samovar - English Tea Urn - England
19th century English Jackfield porcelain tea urn, circa 1880s. Jackfield pottery is known for its distinctive black-glazed earthenware, originated in the town of Jackfield, Shropshire, England, in the mid-18th century. While production peaked between 1740 and 1760, the style continued to be produced, including during the Victorian era which saw a revival of the style, with a focus on terra cotta or white earthenware bodies, sometimes referred to as "Jet Ware." This large samovar tea urn is made of terra cotta earthenware and is decorated with gilt feathery fern designs, hand painted green flourishes, and red flowers. It features an ornate decorated lid and side handles and the base is pedestal shaped. The spigot is metal with a carved black wood handle. This is a large piece measuring 16.5" high and 9" wide. I have looked this over carefully and I can find no damage, some very light wear to gilding, remarkable condition.
