Description
A beautifully hand-carved Burmese Mandalay Buddha finished in luminous gilt with shimmering sequin embellishment, bringing warmth, craftsmanship, and a collected sense of old-world character.
Likely dating to the mid-20th century, this Burmese Mandalay seated Buddha is hand-carved from light wood and finished in richly layered gilt with glistening sequin embellishments throughout the figure and robe.
The sculpture depicts the Buddha in a traditional Lotus seated position with crossed legs, executed in the distinctive decorative style associated with Mandalay craftsmanship. The gilt surface is accented by reflective sequin detailing that adds dimension and warmth, while traces of traditional red underlayer visible along the reverse and base contribute to the figure's authentic aged character.
The piece retains a beautifully sculptural presence at a substantial scale and offers strong decorative versatility for consoles, bookcases, altars, or collected interiors. The warm gilt tones and hand-worked details pair especially well with traditional, global, and layered interiors.
