French School, 18th century. Oil on Canvas painting set in an antique giltwood frame. Unsigned.
An 18th century portrait painting of a young Philip V or at this time Duke of Anjou. He was dressed in important armor, having gold detailing and a crown set in the background to point out his royal status.
"Philip V, King of Spain (French, 1683-1746). Second son of Louis, le Grand Dauphin, and hence grandson of Louis XIV. Styled Duke of Anjou until became King of Spain in 1700, as first Bourbon King of Spain - this led to the War of Spanish Succession. Married (1) Louise Marie of Savoy, 1701; (2) Elisabeth (Isabella) Farnese, 1714. Succeeded by his son Ferdinand VI." - The British Museum
