Description
A finely curated trio of miniature Mata Ortiz seed jars, each hand-coiled, painted, and signed by noted artisans from the pottery village of Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua, Mexico. Together, they showcase the extraordinary range of this modern revival of the ancient Paquimé / Casas Grandes ceramic tradition.
Julio Mora: A cream-toned jar decorated with a spiral bird motif, a hallmark of Mata Ortiz's blend of geometric and natural imagery.
Lourdes López: The largest piece of the group, in polished oxblood red clay with bold black painted geometric patterns, including stylized animals and abstract forms.
Rosi RodrÃguez: An oxblood red and black polished miniature featuring a finely painted insect design, demonstrating the precision and creativity for which RodrÃguez is known.
All three pieces are signed by the artists on the underside, circa late 20th-century. Their petite scale highlights the technical mastery required to execute such finely painted details on vessels less than 3 inches across.
López: 2.5" diameter and 1.25" high.
Mora: approx. 2" diameter and just under 1" high.
RodrÃguez: approx. 2" diameter and just under 1" high.
