17/18thC Mongolian Silver or Silver Alloy Tara- Sits 2 1/2 inches tall and extremely heavy for its size, 3 5/8 inches on its custom base. From an old Hawaiian collection. Sold by the previous owner (an Asian art dealer who had this piece in their personal collection for several decades when I purchased it in the late 1990s) to fund a kitchen renovation. An all-time favorite. Purchased at the Pacific Arts of Asia Show (the premier vetted Asian antique show on the west coast of the USA) almost 30 years ago. Apears to be cast out of silver (not pure, but an alloy with a very high percentage silver), as the places that show the most wear such as the fingertips and the tip of the noses have the soft silver look of high silver content. Also, the patina has a blackish gray color that is typical of tarnished silver. in excellent condition, with no damage. A few of the(modern replacement) semi precious stones are missing. Spend time looking at the photos, the exceptionally beautiful face has real charisma, and while dominative in size, it radiates a loving kindness well beyond its dimensions. In close to 40 years, I’ve never had another piece for remotely like this one, and only seen comparable ones in high and auctions or in books
