Description
This lot features two vintage stringed instruments: an open-back banjo ukulele and a trapezoidal lap harp. The banjo ukulele is constructed with a wooden neck and rim. The internal wooden dowel stick is stamped with the brand name COLUMBIA. The vellum head is decorated with a black ink illustration of a figure in traditional East Asian attire. The artwork is signed BY WM MC LAUGHLIN and includes a banner at the bottom inscribed Grace Co Rowe. The headstock is fitted with metal friction-style tuning pegs. The second instrument is a 15-string lap harp, or zither, branded Perepelochka (Russian for Little Quail). The soundboard is made of light-colored wood and features Cyrillic text reading ???µ?€?µ???µ?»???‡???° below the soundhole, with a stylized red bird graphic above. The reverse side is stamped in red ink MADE IN REPUBLIC OF BELARUS, accompanied by a small square ink stamp containing the characters 2 and H.
Banjo Ukulele total length: 20.5 inches
Lap Harp width at base: 14.75 inches
The Columbia banjo ukulele is in well-used vintage condition. The finish on the neck and headstock shows significant wear and loss. The metal tension hoop, brackets, and nuts exhibit oxidation and tarnish throughout. One tuning peg is missing from the headstock, and only one string remains attached. The vellum head shows general age-related discoloration and staining. The Perepelochka lap harp appears to be in good, complete condition with all 15 strings present and minimal signs of wear to the wooden body.
