Description
For centuries the Japanese have stored a variety of liquids and materials in stoneware vessels called "Tsubo". Incredibly sturdy and durable - they have graduated bodies that culminate in small lipped openings at their top. This piece has a patina that can only result post over a century of repeated use. Its bottom portion is glazed in a shiny deep, rich brown while its upper portion has a rough matte finish. Still watertight - yet quite substantial and heavy - this piece can hold a large grouping of branches, bamboo sticks, or other decorative elements with no problem.
Measures 22" high x 16" diameter (at it's widest point).
In very good antique condition. Structurally sound - there is no visible damage of note. The top opening has no chips - which is rare. There is one visible chip (aged) on the lower bottom edge. However overall - this piece is in excellent condition given its age and prior life. See photos for details.
