Eleanor Fortescue Brickdale's Golden Book of Songs & Ballads
Hardcover: Older Rebind. Real Lather, Real marbled paper, new end papers. pp. No date approximately early 20th century (1916?) 1st Ed?. Beautiful illustrations-24 full color tipped in illustrations: cupids, nature spirits, fairies, knights, ladies, thatched houses, cathedrals, grand houses and their gardens.
Book is in Good. condition. Spine gilt is good. miner wear to spine: rubbing, a fue red wine spots. Some rubbing to cover edges. Pages are mildly age yellowed. Tipped in illustrations are in all present and in very good condition.
Eleanor Fortescue Brickdale RWS (1871 - 1945) studied at the Crystal Palace School of Art under Herbert Bone from 1889, then at the RA Schools. Some of her works in oils and watercolors were shown in the Exhibitions from 1896 and three solo exhibitions at the Pre-Raphaelite Dowdeswell Gallery in the 1900s. She became RWS in 1919. As a book illustrator, she flourished in the early years of the last century, working on children's books and poetry.
