This exquisite original painting by Richard Wood captures the timeless beauty of the English countryside with breathtaking detail and atmosphere. The composition is rich with texture and depth, drawing the viewer into a quintessential rural scene. A thatched-roof cottage nestled among lush greenery, golden fields stretching toward the horizon, and a sky alive with billowing clouds.
Wood's mastery of light and shadow imbues the painting with a sense of warmth and tranquility, evoking the serenity of an English summer's day. The delicate play of sunlight on the cottage, the dappled hues of the foliage, and the vibrant yet natural palette make this piece a true collector's treasure. The rustic wooden gate and winding path invite the viewer into the scene, creating a sense of nostalgia and escape.
For collectors seeking timeless, traditional landscapes, this painting embodies the essence of the British pastoral ideal, reminiscent of the works of 19th-century landscape masters yet infused with Wood's signature realism and sensitivity to nature. Elegantly framed, it is a statement piece that will bring warmth and charm to any interior, whether a country home or an urban retreat longing for a connection to nature.
A rare opportunity to own an original Richard Wood, this painting is not only a testament to the artist's skill but also an invitation to experience the enduring beauty of England's rural heartland.
Richard Wood was born in London in 1950. After leaving school he worked in the Design Department at a Wood Mill before moving to Cornwall to work and study under artist John Miller (1931-2002) in 1974. He has always been drawn to the natural landscape and moved to Lancashire to explore this further, painting the rural scenery in Lancashire, The Lake District and Yorkshire.
Richard Wood was born in London in 1950 but in early adolescence his family moved to Wiltshire where he remained until 1971.
Throughout his school days he exhibited a flair for drawing and painting and upon leaving school joined an old established Wood Mill as a junior in the design department.
In 1974 he was invited by John Miller, ARA, an established landscape painter, to study and work with him in his studio at Sancreed, Cornwall. This was perhaps, the most positive influence on his creative style and was to be a release of energy working with a sympathetic like minded professional. From this period Richard Wood has been a full time self employed artist providing himself with a regular income. He now lives and works in Lancashire, his studio overlooks attractive hills and unspoilt countryside.
Since moving to Lancashire his work and style have progressively developed. In the early days he painted marine subjects, concentrating on the Tea Clipper era. However, his studio environment and his interest drew him towards the natural landscape, working through industrial scenes to the capturing of the different moods of the everchanging seasons in a traditional English landscape style. Subjects include extensive work in the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the relatively unknown Bowland area of Lancashire.
His style can best be described as factual and classical with strong composition, good detail and emphasis on the relationship of trees and skies to the overall landscape. Oil on canvass is his preferred medium with a mix of both bold and tight brushwork.
