This marvelous Victorian hand-painted English ironstone cheese keeper is created in a gorgeous ivory color with forest green and Chinese red foliate motif with gold gilt. The beautiful triangular top has a faux bois handle [shaped as a tree branch] and sits atop an attractive underplate with the same colors with the same floral motif, as well as a geometric patterned border. Backstamp: There are two small holes in the top to vent the cheese. There is no specific maker backstamp. However, there is a gold gilt artist's mark, along with a red one. Measurements for this fabulous creation are: Cover height with handle=5-1/2 inches, Width at widest=8 inches, Underplate height=1 inch, Length=10 inches, Width at widest=10 inches. This marvelous ironstone cheese keeper has been well cared for, gently used and is in good antique condition. It is generally free from chips, cracks or other imperfections, except there is a small chip on the underside of the underplate, which does not affect this lovely cheese keeper's appearance and is commensurate with age and use.
