Description
This lot features a single Smith & Wesson Hand Ejector 2nd Model, double-action revolver chambered for British .455. This historic firearm is equipped with a 6.5-inch barrel featuring a pinned half-moon front sight and a fixed notched rear sight. The revolver showcases a high-polish blued finish throughout the frame and barrel, while the hammer and trigger retain traces of their original case-hardened colors with expected silvering on the contact points. A primary identifying feature is the ejector rod shroud which houses the third locking mechanism, along with a five-screw frame and a factory-fitted lanyard ring on the butt. The firearm is fitted with non-original but attractive textured stag horn grips. Verbatim markings include SMITH & WESSON on the left side of the barrel and a manufacturer's address on the top reading SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD MASS. U.S.A. PATENTED OCT. 8. 1901 DEC. 17. 1901 FEB. 6. 1906. The right side plate bears the prominent Smith & Wesson trademark logo. The serial number 47317 is clearly stamped on the butt and the barrel flat, where it is accompanied by a letter B and an S inside a diamond. The yoke and frame are both stamped with the assembly number 1976, and small crossed pennant-style British proof marks are visible on the left side of the frame. This revolver is accompanied by a black Springfield Armory brand padded soft carry case. Note - All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition
The revolver is in very good overall condition, retaining a high percentage of its blued finish with minor holster wear at the muzzle and typical light handling marks. The bore is bright with well-defined rifling and no significant pitting. The case-hardened colors on the hammer and trigger have faded to a pleasing silver-gray patina. The action appears to function correctly in both single and double action with solid cylinder lockup and proper timing, although we have not function-tested this firearm. The stag grips are in excellent condition with a sharp texture and no cracks or chips.
