Details:
A PT-109-themed lapel pin personally owned by President John F. Kennedy and preserved among the files and effects of his longtime personal secretary, Evelyn Lincoln. The silver-tone pin depicts Kennedy’s famous World War II patrol torpedo boat, PT-109, shown cutting through stylized waves with the vessel number “109” prominently displayed on the bow.
According to the accompanying Certificate of Authenticity from the Robert L. White Collection of John F. Kennedy, the pin originated from the estate of Evelyn Lincoln and is described as an “Original post-JFK PT-109 pin owned by Evelyn Lincoln, circa 1970s–80s.” The piece reflects the enduring public fascination with Kennedy’s wartime heroism and the legacy of PT-109, one of the most recognizable symbols associated with his life and career.
PT-109 became a defining chapter in Kennedy’s biography following the vessel’s destruction in the Solomon Islands during World War II. Kennedy’s leadership and courage in helping rescue members of his crew became a cornerstone of his public image and remained an important part of his political identity throughout his Senate and presidential years.
Evelyn Lincoln served as John F. Kennedy’s personal secretary from his Senate years through his presidency and remained one of the individuals closest to Kennedy throughout his political career. Following the assassination, Lincoln retained and safeguarded numerous historically significant Kennedy-related items, correspondence, and personal effects, many of which later entered important institutional and private collections.
