Ralph A. Dungan (1923-2012) was one of President John F. Kennedy’s closest political advisers, serving as Special Assistant to the President from 1961 to 1964. A trusted member of Kennedy’s inner circle dating back to the 1960 presidential campaign, Dungan handled a wide range of domestic and political matters within the White House and frequently signed correspondence on the President’s behalf. White House letters from Kennedy’s earliest months in office, particularly those retaining their original mailing envelopes, offer an appealing glimpse into the daily correspondence of the young administration.
