Details:
Hale Boggs autographed 5 x 3” congressional card on official Congress of the United States, House of Representatives, Office of the Democratic Whip stationery card stock. The card bears the printed heading identifying Boggs as Congressman from Louisiana’s 2nd District and is boldly signed in blue ink across the lower portion.
As House Majority Whip and one of the most influential Democratic leaders of the 1960s, Boggs maintained a close working relationship with the Kennedy administration. Following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, he was appointed to serve on the Warren Commission, the presidential commission established by Lyndon B. Johnson to investigate the assassination. Boggs later became one of the commission’s most prominent critics, expressing doubts about aspects of its findings and contributing to the continuing public debate surrounding the Kennedy assassination.
Overall in very good condition.
Hale Boggs (1914–1972) represented Louisiana in the U.S. House of Representatives for nearly three decades and rose to become House Majority Whip, one of the most powerful leadership positions in Congress. A trusted ally of Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson, he played a significant role in advancing much of the Kennedy administration’s legislative agenda. Boggs is perhaps best remembered today for his service on the Warren Commission investigating President Kennedy’s assassination and for his mysterious disappearance in 1972 when the airplane carrying him over Alaska vanished without a trace. Autographed material from Boggs remains especially desirable because of his enduring connection to one of the defining events in American history.
