Cyril H. Wecht autographed one-page typed letter dated February 26, 2019, addressed to noted JFK assassination researcher Bruce Adamson. Written on Wecht’s personal forensic pathology and legal medicine letterhead, the correspondence concerns materials Adamson had forwarded regarding George de Mohrenschildt, the enigmatic Dallas geologist and close associate of Lee Harvey Oswald whose role in the events surrounding President John F. Kennedy’s assassination has been the subject of decades of scrutiny and debate.
In letter, Wecht thanks Adamson for sending the material, stating: “Thank you for sending me materials regarding George De Mohrenschildt. I shall review these items with much interest.” He further comments on assassination researcher and author Professor Joan Mellen, writing that she is “a serious ECR critic-researcher” while noting he had no personal knowledge of her current endeavors. Wecht concludes with best wishes and signs the letter in ink.
The letter is accompanied by its original transmittal envelope addressed to Adamson in Aptos, California and bearing postal markings from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Together, the items document the continuing dialogue among prominent researchers and commentators regarding unresolved questions surrounding the Kennedy assassination more than fifty years after the event.
Bruce Adamson devoted decades to researching the Kennedy assassination and maintained correspondence with numerous public officials, historians, attorneys, intelligence figures, and assassination researchers. George de Mohrenschildt remains one of the most controversial figures connected to the assassination due to his documented friendship with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to November 22, 1963. The present letter therefore represents a direct intersection between one of the nation’s foremost forensic critics of the Warren Commission and a longtime independent JFK researcher.
Overall condition is very good.
Cyril Harrison Wecht (1931–2024) was one of America’s most prominent forensic pathologists. Throughout his distinguished career he served as Allegheny County Coroner, testified in numerous high-profile criminal cases, authored hundreds of scientific publications, and became internationally known for his criticism of the Warren Commission’s conclusions regarding the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. For decades Wecht remained one of the most visible and influential forensic voices challenging aspects of the official account of the assassination, making his correspondence on JFK-related subjects particularly desirable to collectors and researchers alike.
