Details:
Dimitri von Mohrenschildt autographed typed letter signed dated November 23, 1993, on personal letterhead from the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry, India, addressed to researcher Bruce Adamson regarding a proposed book connected to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and Dimitri’s brother, George de Mohrenschildt. The one-page letter is boldly signed in blue ink, “D. von Mohrenschildt,” and is accompanied by the original transmittal airmail envelope bearing Indian postage and postal markings.
In the content of the letter, Dimitri declines a request to contribute a preface or foreword for Adamson’s book, stating that he had become “increasingly doubtful that George de M. knew or approved of the President’s assassination” and further remarks that he did not believe the author had proven such claims. The correspondence provides a direct and highly personal family perspective regarding George de Mohrenschildt’s alleged knowledge or involvement surrounding the Kennedy assassination, making it an especially intriguing historical document tied to one of the most debated figures connected to Lee Harvey Oswald and the events of November 22, 1963. The letter also references a previously missing registered letter and Dimitri’s willingness to return research materials sent to him.
Near fine condition.
Provenance: From the personal archive of Kennedy assassination researcher Bruce Campbell Adamson. Accompanied by a full spiral bound volume from Adamson's research on the de Mohrenschildts.
Dimitri von Mohrenschildt was the brother of George de Mohrenschildt and spent much of his later life residing in India at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry. Unlike George, Dimitri remained largely outside the public spotlight, making surviving signed correspondence from him especially scarce. His comments regarding his brother’s alleged connection to the Kennedy assassination offer an uncommon firsthand family perspective on one of the most controversial figures tied to the JFK case.
George de Mohrenschildt (1911–1977) was a Russian-born petroleum geologist and socialite best remembered for his association with Lee Harvey Oswald in the months prior to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. His relationship with Oswald and later testimony before investigators made him one of the most controversial peripheral figures connected to the Kennedy assassination. George’s mysterious death in 1977, ruled a suicide shortly before he was scheduled to testify before the House Select Committee on Assassinations, further cemented his place in JFK assassination lore.
