The cachet features a stylized portrait of Jacqueline Kennedy with “Happy Birthday” printed across the upper left and “Jacqueline Kennedy” along the lower portion. Janet Lee Auchincloss has autographed the cover in blue ink across the portrait image. Postmarked Southampton, New York, July 28, 1962, and franked with a 4¢ Project Mercury “U.S. Man in Space” postage stamp.

Janet Lee Auchincloss (1907–1989) was the mother of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and a prominent social figure of the American East Coast elite. Through her daughter’s marriage to President John F. Kennedy, she became closely associated with the Kennedy family and the Camelot era of American history.
