Henry Wade autographed American Bar Association 75th Anniversary First Day Cover in blue ink, adding the inscription “District Attorney Dallas Tex.” The ArtCraft cachet commemorates the 75th anniversary of the American Bar Association and features a portrait of James O. Broadhead, first president of the ABA. Postmarked August 24, 1953, in Boston, Massachusetts, with a 3¢ American Bar Association commemorative stamp. Accompanied by an original handwritten and signed letter from collector William Hanft, dated February 25, 1964, requesting Wade’s autograph for his First Day Cover collection. Wade additionally signed at the conclusion of the letter beneath the collector’s postscript.

Henry Wade (1914–2001) served as the longtime Dallas County District Attorney and became a central legal figure following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Wade oversaw the prosecution of Jack Ruby, the nightclub owner who fatally shot Lee Harvey Oswald two days after Kennedy’s assassination. The Ruby proceedings became one of the most widely followed criminal cases in American history. Wade later gained additional national prominence through the landmark Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade, which originated from his office.
