Melvin Belli (1907–1996) was a famed American attorney known for his flamboyant courtroom style and involvement in numerous high-profile legal cases. He became closely associated with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy through his representation of Jack Ruby, the Dallas nightclub owner who fatally shot Lee Harvey Oswald on live television two days after Kennedy’s assassination. Belli’s involvement in the Ruby defense placed him at the center of one of the most heavily scrutinized legal proceedings in American history.
