Allen Dulles autographed First Day Cover commemorating John Foster Dulles, postmarked in Washington, D.C., on December 6, 1960, the first day of issue for the 4¢ John Foster Dulles postage stamp. The cover additionally features clipped newspaper image of Allen Dulles affixed at left.

Dulles served as Director of Central Intelligence from 1953 until 1961 and oversaw many of the CIA’s most significant operations during the Eisenhower administration. Following the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, President John F. Kennedy requested his resignation in late 1961. Despite their often-complicated relationship, Dulles later returned to public service as a member of the Warren Commission, the body appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson to investigate the assassination of President Kennedy in November 1963.
