Details:
Richard Condon autographed typed letter signed dated September 23, 1993, on personal Dallas, Texas letterhead, addressed to researcher Bruce Adamson regarding the Kennedy assassination and interpretations of Condon’s famed political thriller “The Manchurian Candidate.” The one-page letter is boldly signed “R. Condon” in black ink and is accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Condon’s hand. Also included is an additional unrelated 1996 correspondence and mailing envelope involving another individual attempting to contact a different “Richard Condon.”
In the letter, Condon thanks Adamson for forwarding information concerning the Kennedy assassination but makes clear that he had largely moved on from the subject. He specifically states that “The Manchurian Candidate” (1958) was intended as an allegory relating to Senator Joseph McCarthy and “had nothing to do” with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, despite public speculation that he had become “a student of the Kennedy murder.” Condon closes by wishing Adamson success in his “pursuit of the truth” surrounding Kennedy’s death while remarking that “the bloom is off that rose” for him personally.
The additional 1996 correspondence consists of a typed inquiry sent to Richard Condon regarding Radio Liberty and related Cold War figures, with a handwritten response explaining that the letter had been mailed to the wrong Richard Condon and that no such individual was known at the Dallas address. Both the forwarding note and original mailing envelope are included.
Fine condition with standard mailing folds and light handling wear. Accompanied by both original mailing envelopes.
