Details:
John F. Kennedy assassination original United Press International (UPI) teletype bulletin printed on continuous news service paper, measuring approximately 40 x 8.5”, documenting the breaking events of November 22, 1963. Beginning with the urgent bulletin, “President Kennedy has been assassinated today,” the lengthy dispatch provides a remarkable minute-by-minute account as details emerged from Dallas, including reports from Parkland Hospital, the swearing-in of Lyndon B. Johnson aboard Air Force One, the search for Lee Harvey Oswald, the fatal shooting of Dallas police officer J.D. Tippit, and the eventual arrest of Oswald at the Texas Theatre.
Teletypes such as this were transmitted directly over leased wire services to newspaper offices, radio stations, and television newsrooms, serving as the primary means by which breaking news reached the media before the digital age. As events unfolded, editors literally watched history print across the page, with new bulletins arriving moments after information became available. Because these dispatches were intended for immediate newsroom use, surviving original teletypes from the day of President Kennedy’s assassination are considerably scarcer than newspapers published hours later.
This exceptionally long continuous bulletin preserves the evolving story exactly as it was reported in real time, capturing the confusion, urgency, and uncertainty of one of the most consequential days in American history. Among the dispatches are reports of Kennedy’s death, Vice President Johnson’s assumption of the presidency, eyewitness accounts from Dallas, the nationwide reaction, and updates surrounding the apprehension of the suspected assassin. As an unedited contemporary newsroom record, it offers an extraordinary firsthand documentary account of the assassination as the tragedy unfolded.
Good condition overall with expected age toning, handling wear, horizontal and vertical folds from storage, and minor edge wear consistent with original newsroom use. The text remains dark, legible, and highly presentable throughout.
