Details:
John F. Kennedy presentation folio measuring 8.5 x 14” titled “We Are . . . The Watchmen on the Walls of Freedom,” containing the text of the address President Kennedy was scheduled to deliver at the Dallas Trade Mart in Dallas, Texas, at noon on November 22, 1963. Produced as a presentation-style folio, the piece contains Kennedy’s prepared remarks for what would have been the keynote speech of his Dallas appearance. The cover prominently notes the intended delivery location and date, while the interior presents the complete text of the address. Following Kennedy’s assassination en route to the Trade Mart earlier that day, the speech was never delivered, making this one of the most historically significant undelivered presidential addresses in American history.
Near fine condition with very little age or handling wear.
John Fitzgerald Kennedy (1917-1963), the 35th President of the United States, was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963, while traveling in a motorcade through Dealey Plaza. Kennedy was en route to the Dallas Trade Mart where thousands of guests had gathered to hear the speech reproduced in this folio. Entitled “We Are . . . The Watchmen on the Walls of Freedom,” the address focused on Cold War leadership, military preparedness, economic growth, free enterprise, and America’s responsibilities as a global leader. Because the speech was never delivered, it stands as one of the final major policy statements prepared during the Kennedy presidency.
