Jacqueline Kennedy relic display featuring an approximately 1 x 1” swatch of gold silk bedspread personally used during her 1962 diplomatic trip to India. This elegant 8 x 10” display includes a vivid image of the First Lady in India and photograph of the original silk textiles. The swatch was preserved from the private cottage furnished for Mrs. Kennedy and her sister Lee Radziwill by the Indian government during their official nine-day visit.
Fine condition.
Originally acquired directly from the estate of William “Bill” G. Wilcox, a senior officer in the USIS (United States Information Service), who helped coordinate the Kennedy visit. Includes a printed provenance letter signed by Wilcox’s granddaughter detailing how the furnishings were gifted by the Indian government upon Mrs. Kennedy’s departure, along with copies of two vintage newspaper clippings referencing the event. A truly remarkable textile relic tying together fashion, diplomacy, and one of the most iconic First Ladies in U.S. history.
