Ruth Hyde Paine autographed commemorative cover honoring the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy as the 35th President of the United States. The cachet features a portrait of Kennedy alongside an image of the White House with printed text commemorating the January 20, 1961 inauguration. Paine has autographed the cover in dark ink across the lower right portion. Postmarked Washington, D.C., January 20, 1961, with an “Inauguration Day” cancellation.

Ruth Hyde Paine (b. 1932) is closely associated with the investigation into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. A friend of Marina Oswald, the wife of Lee Harvey Oswald, Paine housed Marina and her children in Irving, Texas, during 1963. Lee Harvey Oswald was staying at Paine’s residence the night before the assassination, and investigators later recovered the rifle linked to the assassination from the Paine garage.
