John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy original 10 x 8” color photograph by famed White House photographer Cecil Stoughton depicting the presidential couple arriving at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas, on November 21, 1963, the day before President Kennedy’s assassination. Kennedy is seated in the presidential limousine as Jacqueline Kennedy, dressed in a light-colored ensemble with her signature pillbox hat, greets members of the welcoming delegation upon arriving aboard Air Force One. Secret Service agents, military personnel, and hundreds of spectators surround the presidential motorcade as the Texas trip begins its final chapter.
Captured by Cecil Stoughton during President Kennedy’s final presidential journey, this original photograph documents one of the most historically significant arrivals of the Kennedy administration. After landing at Carswell Air Force Base on the evening of November 21, President and Mrs. Kennedy traveled into Fort Worth, where the President would deliver remarks the following morning before departing for Dallas. Less than twenty-four hours after this image was taken, Kennedy would be assassinated in Dealey Plaza. Stoughton’s photographs from the Texas trip form the definitive photographic record of the President’s final public appearances and remain among the most important visual documents of twentieth-century American history.
