Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy Onassis (1929-1994) served as First Lady of the United States from 1961 until the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963. Renowned for her elegance, fashion sense, and restoration of the White House, she became one of the most admired and recognizable women of the twentieth century. According to the accompanying provenance documentation, the original bathing suit was acquired during one of Mrs. Kennedy’s periodic wardrobe cleanings while she resided in Georgetown and later at the White House. The accompanying letter is attributed to Mary Barelli Gallagher, who served as secretary to Senator John F. Kennedy from 1953 to 1956 and as personal secretary to Jacqueline Kennedy from 1956 to 1964. Gallagher later authored My Life With Jacqueline Kennedy, a memoir recounting her years working closely with the Kennedy family. A unique Kennedy memorabilia display combining a textile relic with provenance tied directly to one of the family’s most trusted longtime aides.
