These receipts originate from the Kennedy family’s household records and provide a rare glimpse into the personal and family life of America’s most famous First Family. Unlike official White House documents, such records document the everyday purchases made for Caroline Kennedy and John F. Kennedy Jr., preserving details of the toys and gifts that filled the Kennedy household during the Camelot years. The presence of filing notations by longtime presidential secretary Mary Gallagher further ties the receipts to the White House administrative records maintained during President Kennedy’s administration.
Jacqueline Kennedy (1929–1994) served as First Lady of the United States from 1961 to 1963 and remains one of the most admired and influential First Ladies in American history. Renowned for her elegance, cultural initiatives, and stewardship of the White House restoration project, she helped define the public image of the Kennedy administration. Personal household records associated with Jackie Kennedy and her family are highly sought-after artifacts that offer an intimate perspective on life behind the scenes of the Kennedy White House.
