Details:
John F. Kennedy original 6.5 x 8.5” black-and-white press photograph depicting the future president boarding an American Airlines aircraft at East Boston Airport. The original news caption affixed to the reverse identifies Kennedy as a Harvard student and the son of the United States Ambassador to England, noting his departure for Palm Beach, Florida, following a tonsil operation from which he had not recovered as quickly as expected. Dated March 23, 1938, the image captures Kennedy at age twenty, more than two decades before his election to the presidency.
Good condition with a vertical crease along the left edge. Reverse retains the original International News Photo caption and period reference stamps.
The reverse caption reads in part: “Jack Kennedy, Harvard student and son of the United States Ambassador to England, pictured boarding a plane at the East Boston Airport bound for the Palm Beach home of his parents…”
John F. Kennedy (1917–1963) served as the 35th President of the United States from 1961 until his assassination in 1963. As the son of Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Kennedy spent much of his youth in the public eye. Early photographs such as this one document his years as a Harvard student and offer a rare glimpse of the future president before the political career that would ultimately define the Kennedy legacy.
