Details:
John F. Kennedy Aerogramme Ceremony archive consisting of six official commemorative programs from the John F. Kennedy Aerogramme Ceremony held at Faneuil Hall, Boston, Massachusetts, on May 28, 1965, accompanied by the original Post Office Department mailing envelope addressed to Honorable Benjamin A. Smith II. The archive includes two programs with commemorative postcards affixed inside and four programs retaining their original inset postal aerogramme covers, as issued. Each program commemorates the dedication of the John F. Kennedy international aerogramme and features Kennedy’s portrait, patriotic illustrations, and quotations from his inaugural address.
Held on May 28, 1965, the ceremony marked the introduction of the United States’ commemorative John F. Kennedy aerogramme, honoring the late President’s commitment to international communication and diplomacy. Hosted at Boston’s historic Faneuil Hall, the event brought together civic leaders, postal officials, and members of the Kennedy family to celebrate the issuance.
This archive was retained by Benjamin A. Smith II, one of John F. Kennedy’s closest lifelong friends and Harvard roommate. Kennedy later appointed Smith to the United States Senate following the death of Senator Leverett Saltonstall in 1960, and Smith remained a trusted confidant of the Kennedy family for decades.
Good condition overall.
