Details:
John F. Kennedy campaign 7” 45 RPM phonograph record featuring two of the most recognizable musical themes of the 1960 presidential campaign. One side contains “High Hopes” with Jack Kennedy, the adapted version of Frank Sinatra’s famous campaign song that became synonymous with Kennedy’s presidential run, while the reverse features “All the Way”, another campaign recording promoting Kennedy’s candidacy.
Among the most memorable pieces of Kennedy campaign memorabilia, “High Hopes” was adapted from the Academy Award-winning song originally written by Jimmy Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn and popularized by Frank Sinatra. Sinatra re-recorded the tune with new lyrics supporting Kennedy’s 1960 presidential campaign, creating one of the most enduring political campaign songs in American history. Together with “All the Way,” the record captures the optimism and energy that defined the Kennedy campaign and helped usher in the “New Frontier.”
This example originates from the estate of Benjamin A. Smith II, Kennedy’s Harvard roommate, lifelong friend, trusted political confidant, and later United States Senator from Massachusetts. Smith remained one of Kennedy’s closest personal friends from their undergraduate years through the presidency, making campaign and personal memorabilia from his estate particularly desirable.
Very good condition overall with light expected handling and age wear. The original paper sleeve is present.
