Kennedy original engraved invitation issued by the Chamber of Commerce of Heber Springs, Arkansas, requesting the honor of the recipient’s presence at the dedication of the Greers Ferry Reservoir by President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. The invitation announces the ceremony held at Greers Ferry Dam on October 3, 1963, at eleven o’clock in the morning, less than two months before President Kennedy’s assassination.
The dedication of Greers Ferry Dam marked one of President Kennedy’s final domestic trips and one of the last major public infrastructure projects dedicated during his administration. The reservoir, constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was a significant flood control, hydroelectric, and water conservation project for Arkansas and the surrounding region. Kennedy delivered the principal dedication address before thousands of spectators, emphasizing the importance of conservation and responsible management of the nation’s natural resources.
