John F. Kennedy White House “The President’s Engagements” memo sheet dated Thursday, October 24, 1963, measuring approximately 5.75 x 9.25 inches. Printed on official White House memorandum stationery, the sheet records several of President Kennedy’s scheduled appointments during the final month of his presidency. A contemporary blue ink notation reading “4. Tony Solomon” appears beside the morning appointments.
The memo outlines a full morning schedule beginning with a 9:30 a.m. meeting with Secretary of the Interior Stewart Udall and John Carver, followed at 10:00 a.m. by Dr. José Antonio Correa Escobar, the newly appointed Ambassador of Ecuador. At 11:30 a.m., President Kennedy was scheduled to sign H.R. 7544, the Maternal and Child Health and Mental Retardation Planning Amendments of 1963, before delivering remarks at the 13th Annual Convention Luncheon of the National Association for Retarded Children at the Mayflower Hotel at 12:00 p.m. The document offers an informative snapshot of the President’s daily schedule balancing legislative, diplomatic, and public responsibilities during the closing weeks of the Kennedy administration.
