John F. Kennedy original 5 x 7” vintage black-and-white press photograph depicting the President greeting an enthusiastic crowd during his historic visit to West Berlin on June 26, 1963. Captured as Kennedy reaches through the crowd to shake hands with admirers, the image reflects the tremendous public reception surrounding one of the defining moments of his presidency. The reverse bears period editorial stamps and notations, including a German press agency stamp identifying the scene as Kennedy’s visit to Berlin.
Kennedy’s visit to West Berlin came at the height of the Cold War and included his famous “Ich bin ein Berliner” speech, delivered before hundreds of thousands of spectators. The visit became one of the most enduring symbols of American support for the people of West Berlin and for freedom in the face of Soviet pressure.
