Shown from left to right are Vice Chairman of the New Ross Urban District Council Gerald Donovan, President John F. Kennedy, Chairman of the New Ross Urban District Council Andrew Minihan, and Ireland’s Minister for External Affairs Frank Aiken. The image captures the group during ceremonies in New Ross, County Wexford, one of the most memorable stops of Kennedy’s return to his ancestral homeland.
The reverse bears a June 1963 date stamp (“29393 JUN 1963”). The photograph is an original period print from Kennedy’s celebrated visit to Ireland, a six-day tour that attracted immense public enthusiasm and strengthened ties between Ireland and the United States. Kennedy’s stop in New Ross was particularly significant, as the town was closely connected to his family’s Irish roots.
Fine condition.
President Kennedy’s June 1963 journey through Ireland included visits to Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, and County Wexford. The trip is widely regarded as one of the most successful and personally meaningful foreign visits of his presidency, occurring just months before his assassination later that year. Frank Aiken (1898–1983) served as Ireland’s Minister for External Affairs and was a prominent figure in Irish politics, while local officials Gerald Donovan and Andrew Minihan played leading roles in welcoming Kennedy to the New Ross community during this historic occasion.
