Details:
John F. Kennedy original 5.5 x 6.75” press photograph depicting the Democratic presidential nominee in conversation with Vice President Richard Nixon during the historic 1960 presidential campaign. Captured in an informal moment, the image documents the two rivals whose closely contested election would become one of the most consequential in American political history.
The reverse retains its original newspaper clipping identifying the image as “John and Dick on the Firing Line,” along with period editorial grease-pencil markings and multiple September 27, 1960 newsroom date stamps, documenting the photograph’s use by the press during the height of the campaign. The image was distributed as editorial reference material shortly after the candidates’ landmark televised debates, which transformed modern political campaigning and helped propel Kennedy to a narrow electoral victory.
Very good condition overall with expected editorial handling wear.
John F. Kennedy (1917–1963) defeated Richard M. Nixon in the 1960 presidential election, becoming the 35th President of the United States. Their campaign, highlighted by the first nationally televised presidential debates, reshaped the role of television in American politics and remains one of the most studied and influential elections in the nation’s history.
