Details:
Pair of original 5 x 3.5” color snapshot photographs depicting the presidential reviewing stand on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., photographed immediately prior to the January 1961 inauguration of President John F. Kennedy. One image captures the completed reviewing stand adorned with the Presidential Seal, while the second provides a closer view featuring the large gilded eagle displayed beneath the canopy before the inaugural festivities commenced.
Period handwritten notations on the reverse identify the photographs as taken “the day before the inauguration of John F. Kennedy” and “just before the stand started,” dating them to January 1961. Both prints retain their original Kodachrome processing stamps on the reverse, further confirming their period production.
Overall in very good condition.
An attractive pair of original color snapshots documenting the final preparations for one of the most celebrated presidential inaugurations in American history, capturing rarely seen views of the reviewing stand before President Kennedy took the oath of office on January 20, 1961.
