John F. Kennedy’s PT-109 crew collection of nine autographed “In Memoriam” First Day Covers honoring President Kennedy and postmarked May 29, 1964, Boston, Massachusetts. The collection features signatures from members of Kennedy’s famed World War II PT-109 patrol boat crew, including:

PT-109 became one of the most legendary patrol torpedo boats of World War II after it was rammed and sunk by the Japanese destroyer Amagiri in the Solomon Islands on August 2, 1943. Lieutenant (junior grade) John F. Kennedy’s leadership and heroism in helping rescue surviving crew members became a defining chapter of his public image and later political career. These crew members remained permanently tied to Kennedy’s legacy, and autographed PT-109 material from actual crewmen remains highly sought after by both Kennedy and military history collectors.
