Description
An antique American scrap quilt featuring a geometric pattern composed of octagonal blocks with central diamond-shaped squares, a design sometimes referred to as a Stone Mason's or Octagonal Bowtie variation. The piece is constructed from a wide variety of cotton scrap fabrics typical of late 19th and early 20th-century utility quilts, including calico prints, ginghams, plaids, and solid colors in shades of blue, green, brown, cream, and yellow. The quilt is hand-pieced and hand-quilted in a traditional concentric fan or shell motif. The reverse consists of plain, off-white cotton fabric with a central vertical seam. A modern white lot tag is attached to the upper right corner. No maker marks, signatures, or labels are present.
