Description
These six exquisite majolica pottery figurines, standing at approximately 12 inches tall, are masterfully crafted by the renowned Gulino Caltagirone company in Sicily, Italy. Each figurine vividly captures the essence of various villagers in remarkable detail and artistry.
The first figurine portrays a dark-haired man with a goatee, adorned in a mustard-colored hat, striped breeches, and a white cloak embellished with blue floral patterns. He holds a lantern in his right hand, while his left arm is gracefully positioned across his chest, suggesting a gesture of apology.
Following him is a clean-shaven man with dark, curly hair. His dramatic pose, with hands raised and head thrown back, gives the impression of vehement denial, causing his brown hat to tumble to the ground. Despite his well-dressed appearance, featuring a yellow cloak with orange flowers, a brown jacket, a green shirt, blue and white waist bag, and green and yellow striped white breeches, he stands barefoot.
The third figurine showcases a balding man with a dark mustache and beard, lifting his brown hat slightly in a friendly greeting. Dressed in a yellow buttoned v-neck long-sleeved shirt, brown pants with a right knee patch, green cloak, and black shoes.
The next trio of figurines appears to be related. The fourth depicts a teenage boy with shoulder-length wavy blond hair, carrying a basket of fruit in each hand. He exudes a relaxed demeanor, clad in a yellow shirt, blue vest, green breeches, and black shoes, all while whistling cheerfully.
Adjacent to him is a blond woman with her hair partially tied up in a bun. She wears a loose elbow-length green shirt with yellow trim, tied off to the side, and a white skirt adorned with blue and orange flowers and stripes at the hem, and green shoes. She carries a bundle to her side with both hands.
The final figurine features a young boy in blissful slumber, lying on the grass with his head turned to the right, holding a brown hat over his chest, and with his left knee bent. He is dressed in a blue vest, yellow shirt, green and orange-striped white breeches, and brown shoes.
