Description
This antique porcelain lamp was hand-painted by the artist Carl Larsen for the renowned Victoria Carlsbad Company.
The tall porcelain body is richly decorated with two finely detailed classical scenes. On one side, three women in flowing gowns gather together, their attention drawn upward to a playful winged cherub flying above them. The opposite side presents an elegant musical tableau: one woman stands holding a lyre, another plays a lute-like instrument, while a third gently plucks a harp as a child beside them holds a book of sheet music.
The figural panels are framed above and below by soft blush-pink bands that contrast gracefully with the ivory porcelain ground, subtly highlighting the finely painted scenes.
Enhancing the lamp's opulent character are elaborate gilt ormolu brass mounts. Intricately cast scrolls and acanthus leaves form the graceful handles, while matching gilt metal work creates a decorative four-legged base and a pierced, scrolled cap at the top. The richly detailed mounts beautifully complement the refined porcelain decoration, lending the piece a strong Neoclassical presence
